How CoatMentor questions are made and checked
A question bank is only as good as its weakest key. This is how ours are written, checked and corrected.
Written from scratch, to the published blueprints
Every question is written against the published AMPP exam preparation guides and the FROSIO syllabus. We cover the topics the exams test, but we never copy exam wording, recalled questions or answer keys. Third-party course material is never used.
Checked before it ships
A standard cited in a question is checked against a live source, and facts are checked against sources that we have verified. Every change to a bank passes automated checks. Before a batch of questions ships, a certified coating inspector reads a random sample of it.
Measured in use
Members' answers are counted anonymously per question. A question that most candidates miss goes back for review. A question whose wording or answer we rewrite counts as new in your progress, so you see it again.
Honest scoring
A mock score is a readiness indicator, not a pass verdict. AMPP's guides give no cut score for the CIP theory exams, so CIP mock results show the commonly reported pass mark, about 70 %. FROSIO's own book publishes its pass marks: 100 of 150 points for the written exam and 32 of 48 for the practical, two thirds each. The FROSIO written mock shows the two-thirds line. Every mock result also shows our stricter 80 % readiness target. None carries a pass or fail stamp. Domains with too few readings say so.
Who writes it
CoatMentor is built by a certified coating inspector working in marine coatings and shipbuilding QC. The author stays anonymous while employed; the method above is what you can check.
