Thermal spraying of zinc, aluminium and their alloys.

**Publisher**: ISO

**Area**: Metallic coatings and cathodic protection

ISO 2063 covers thermal-sprayed zinc, aluminium and their alloys (TSZ and TSA) for the corrosion protection of steel. It has two parts:

- **Part 1 (2019):** design considerations and quality requirements for the protection system.
- **Part 2 (2017):** execution of the protection system on the job.

## What makes thermal spray different

Thermal spray bonds mechanically. It needs a very clean, coarse profile. Bond is checked with field cut or bend tests for lifting, and in the laboratory by tensile bond testing (ASTM C633). The sprayed metal is usually sealed to fill its pores.

The FROSIO book treats thermal spray as a subject of its own, next to hot-dip galvanizing.

**1** practice item in the members area mentions ISO 2063 (CIP 2: 1).
